Lakeshore is hosting SECTION FINALS for A POOLS on August 13 – WE NEED YOUR HELP

July 27, 2016 by Brenna Jardin

SHORE-hosting

On Saturday August 13, Lakeshore Pool will be hosting the Section Finals for A pools -all the pools we’ve swam against this summer. This will be a huge event for Lakeshore- similar to the Finals we hosted last summer. It’s a very rare occurrence for our pool to be hosting such significant events two years in a row. As we know from last year, it takes MANY people to make this event a great success. We are reaching out to the Lakeshore community once again to ask for your help!

If you would like to be a part of a day that promises to have lots of energy, excitement and fun- this is your chance!!!

Most of the volunteering will centre around food on the day of the event- set up, preparation and selling of food! Beyond this, there will be a need for setup on Friday evening, clean up on Saturday afternoon, helping with parking, raffle organization and a few other posts with details coming soon. Please note that Lakeshore will not be responsible for providing officials. All officials will be supplied by ALPS -Association of Lakeshore Pools.

If you can spare the morning or even a few hours, it would be greatly appreciated. If you are a parent of a swimmer or swimmers in the Section Finals, we would be so happy to have your help in advance or even between your children’s races on the day of the event. Please send me an email and let me know if you’re able to help and when. The times will likely range from 5pm to 9pm on Friday evening and 6am to 3pm on Saturday.

If you would like to contribute to the day but can not be there, we would greatly appreciate a donation of baked goods or a contribution for the raffle.

We’re also looking for a few people to help with advanced preparation:

  • BAKE TABLE COORDINATOR
  • PARKING COORDINATOR
  • RAFFLE ORGANIZER

We will send out more details in the upcoming days- please send me an email- [email protected] if you have any questions about volunteering for this exciting event!

Thank you,

Sue Cookson

Message regarding volunteer recruitment for swim meets and no swim meet this week!

July 6, 2016 by Brenna Jardin

Swimmeet-Illustration-wideHello to all! Firstly, I would like to clarify that we DO NOT have a swim meet today, July 6- it’s a BYE week (meaning we skip a week!). We’ll have our second swim meet on Weds July 13 at HOME- Lakeshore vs Westmount.

It would be a great relief to start filling up the volunteer roster as soon as possible as we will need over 20 volunteers for this meet alone. I will need to rely on people responding via email as I will not be able to reach out to all individuals at the pool before next week! Thank you to those who have already been in touch wth me!

We are so fortunate to have a handful of loyal volunteers who help out on a very regular basis. We would love to recruit many additional volunteers to ensure a continuous thread of experienced people this summer and in years to come. Our goal is to have each family with children on swim team to volunteer for at least one meet throughout the summer. We’re also asking for help from any member that would be willing to lend a hand. We welcome anyone and everyone who would like to learn how to time! The training will last about 3 minutes:) If you have a partner that you would like to share the timing with, we’re happy to accommodate this- rather than timing for 3 hours, you could split it and do 1.5 hours each. We would also like to do some in house training for specific official roles so we have back up for times when current volunteers are on vacation.

Our summer swim meets are a very special tradition that many of us remember from our own childhood. They will undoubtedly create lasting memories for generations to come. Getting involved is so much fun, meaningful to the swimmers and a great way to meet people within your community! Please forward me your name, phone number, email address and desired position ASAP for next week and if by chance you can book in for other meets to come, it would very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Sue Cookson- my email address is [email protected]
